The Flat Belly Diet Plan

Belly fat is a big problem for people who are overweight; it can cause heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and other major health problems. It seems that belly fat is the hardest to lose especially if you are really carrying a lot of extra weight. There are effective diets out there and you will lose weight, but some have a concern about not losing enough fat off their stomach. A flat stomach is just about every woman and man’s dream, you have to know how your body works, what foods to eat and which diet plan is appropriate for you. There is a weight loss plan I have read about and it is very interesting. It is called The Flat Belly Diet, while reading it, it just seemed too simple to me, but many people have gotten phenomenal results from it.

This diet will help dieters burn two times more calories and seven times more belly fat; all you have to do is spike this special oil in your meals. The oil is coconut oil, apparently the fat in this oil when used in muffin batter and salad dressing boosts your weight loss according to Marie-Pierre St. Onge, Ph.D. A group of Women’s World readers tried a two-muffin-a day plan like the one use in a Columbia study, they had reported losing most of their abdominal fat, and they lost six pounds and three inches of their waist in one week!

The dieters were put on a 1500-calorie a day diet plan that included 4 teaspoons of medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) like coconut oil or four teaspoons of olive oil. Using the MCT they had slimmed down tremendously, Olive oil is still good, but the MCT’s in coconut oil is better because Olive oil has longer chains of fatty acids that digest differently. When you use MCT’s they set off a chemical reaction that enhances your weight loss in a number of ways. You will benefit even more with ab exercises, learn the most effective workouts that will give you the body you want at Fitnessbooks.com

What should know?

The MCT’s are smaller than other fats and can create a shortcut to the fat processing center in your liver. Because they get to the liver more quickly, they are less likely to be stored as fat cells, “promises St. Onge. The MCT’s are broken down by the liver and that gives your metabolism a huge jumpstart, which makes you burn more fat and burn more calories, explains holistic health expert Cherie Calbom, author of The Coconut Diet.

You will target your tummy fat:

MCT-induced fat-burning heat, they have a smooth effect on belly-fattening stress hormones and blood-sugar hormones when these hormones drop it’s easier to burn belly fat says Calbom. The fat in the coconut oil also waves off hunger pangs too, it also improves the levels of anti-hunger hormones, since medium-chain fats are burned for energy so fast, they trigger the body’s satiety signals very rapidly. This diet will help you to become lean and healthy, even if you have no energy or have thyroids or diabetes you still can lose weight. You can find this oil in health stores for around $ 7-$ 14, it is solid a room temperature, so you will have to melt it before using it in salad dressing or recipes.

Here is the recipe for the muffins you will need:

1 ½ cups of all purpose flour

1-cup oatmeal

½ cup of sugar

1 Tbs. baking powder

½ cup of raisins

1-cup fat-free milk

¼ cup MCT oil or melted

1 Egg, lightly beaten

1 tsp. vanilla

Here’s how to make them, heat oven to 400F, Mist muffin tin with cooking spray. In a large bowl, mix flour, oatmeal, sugar, baking powder and raisins. In small bowl, blend milk, oil, egg and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients; stir until just moistened. Fill 12 muffin cups almost full. Bake 18 to 20 minutes. Cool on wire rack 5 minutes. Remove from pan.

Resveratrol is an ingredient that is found in red wine is another alternative to achieving successful weight loss; it is very nutritious and has anti-aging ingredients that makes you feel and look younger.

Foods That Get Rid Of Gout

People are able to reduce inflammation, get gout pain relief, and, reduce their uric acid blood levels by utilizing totally natural home remedies through the use of herbs, fruits, vegetables, supplements, dietary changes, lifestyle changes, etc.

One of the most significant is your diet. But to understand how diet can help you get rid of gout without drugs, it’s worth going over what actually causes your excruciating gout attacks.

You should always remember the benefits of staying well hydrated. I recommend buying a cool bottle that allows you to know how much water you are drinking. Most bottles have the liquid volume labeled on the outside bottle. Make it a goal to drink at least 100 ounces of water through the whole day. The best water treatment is to drink throughout the day (1 cup every 1 hour you are awake).

you can get rid of gout without all these hassles, side effects and expenses. You just have to make certain lifestyle changes particularly where your diet is concerned. You can even find many of these beneficial foods in your kitchen pantry, in your refrigerator and in your neighborhood grocery store!

alfalfa is a great way to help you overcome a gouty episode. I use it all the time. In fact, it is my favorite way to alleviate the pain and is also great for prevention. Alfalfa has quite a few healthy attributes to it, but the one we are looking for in this case is the excellent anti-inflammatory benefits. Inflammation is what causes the majority of pain during an attack, and alfalfa works great.

Gout is the result of uric acid crystals in your joints and tissue around your joints. These crystals form when you have high uric acid in your blood.

Uric acid is produced by the metabolization of ‘purines’ in your body cells and foods. Purines are chemical compounds that help produce your energy and protein needs among other things beneficial to you.

Losing weight is the most important step on how to get rid of gout. Yes, this takes time, but weight loss is crucial to your efforts at controlling this problem. Most people with this disease are overweight. The causes and side effects of this overweight problem help lead to gout attacks. Usually, people who are overweight, tend to eat foods that are very high in purines which raise your uric acid levels and gout attacks ensue.

More and more gout victims are seeking a natural way to eliminate gout. Mainly because they are fed up of drug-based medications that can have some very serious side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, stomach pains, ulcers, bleeding, skin and other allergies, etc.

Now, high uric acid is caused by the inability of your kidneys to process and excrete excess uric acid from your body. This may be because there is just too much uric acid being produced, or, your kidneys aren’t working efficiently. Whatever the cause, excess uric acid is retained in your blood, leading to the formation of those crystals that actually cause the symptoms of your gout.

Your Free Flat Belly Diet Plan

Getting a flat belly is not the hardest thing in the world. A lot of people make a big deal about getting a flat belly for many reasons. Some of these reasons are more justified than others. A lot of times, people who embark on a weight loss program are either mis informed  about what they are doing or they do not have a solid, scientific plan that has been proven to work over and over again. Well don’t worry, because what I am about to show you is the exact plan that I give a lot of my clients when they come to me to lose their belly. Without further ado, here is the diet plan.

First thing is you need to have protein in every meal you consume. There are many reasons for this but the main ones are because protein is very filling, it helps repair muscle damage, and increase your metabolism. By staying full, you will be less likely to binge and give into cravings. Protein is also 30% more thermogenic than carbs or fats. What this means is that when you ingest any form of protein, your body has a harder time breaking it down, especially if it’s solid food. Therefore, your body has to use energy in the form of calories to digest protein into simpler forms.

The next thing is you need to eat multiple times a day. If you don’t, you lead to an increase in fat storage. By eating small meals throughout the day, you are essentially stoking the fire, and the fire is your metabolism. Shoot for 5 to 6 meals a day. Have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In between breakfast and lunch have a light snack and another snack between lunch and dinner.

Consume all of your carbs in the form of fruit and veggies. This one is pretty straight forward. Unless you are an athlete, you will not need a lot of carbs especially if you have a high percentage of body fat. The higher the number, the less carbs you need because you are insulin resistant. By only getting your carbs from fruit and veggies ensures that you are getting enough nutrients from healthy sources.

Also, the last half of the day, you should only consume a mixture of protein and healthy fats with veggies, no carbs at all. As the day goes on, there is a higher chance of the carbs you ingest being stored as body fat. You are more insulin sensitive in the morning as compared to at night. A perfect dinner would be any type of lean protein with a ton of veggies doused in olive oil.

Consume healthy fats. Fat is not bad for you. The only real type of fat that you do not need in your diet is trans fat. This is really unhealthy and has been linked to cancer, heart disease and a host of other disorders. Consume omega 3 fatty acids daily. Good sources are salmon, herring, mackerel, and flax seeds. Omega 3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce inflammation, which is great for your cardiovascular health. They also have been shown to aid in weight loss.

If you just follow these tips and tricks that I have outlined above, you will lose weight. That I can guarantee you. However, this is a matter up to you if you are willing to put forth the effort.

However, this is not all I use when getting clients in the best shape of their life. A lot of what I tell them can be found on my blog.

Heart Healthy Holiday Foods

The natural health researchers at Institute for Vibrant Living (IVL) would like to thank Cindy Gray, Author of “The Spirit of Health” for contributing this report:

Happy Holidays!  Happy Heart Health?  Yes, thankfully both are possible.  Just think about what Americans usually eat for the holidays … and the average holiday meal can easily exceed 2,000 fat-laden calories.  But rather than focusing on what NOT to eat, (and feeling guilty) read on and learn about delicious foods and healthy ways to enjoy them…. foods that may already be on your shoppng list this year.

Let’s begin with pumpkins—beautiful on the outside and delicious on the inside too.  Loaded with vitamin A and teeming with fiber, pumpkin offers more than a seasonal decoration.  Low in calories and rich with the healthiest types of fat, enjoy pumpkin pie this year, but tailor it to fit in with a tasty, healthy lifestyle.  Instead of a pie made with eggs, sugar, evaporated milk, and a waist-expanding high-fat pie crust, consider using an egg substitute, light cream (or low-fat evaporated milk, or soy milk) in your recipe.  Avoid transfat in your pie crust, or make your own without shortening.  And don’t forget about natural sugar substitutes like stevia, honey, brown rice syrup or agave syrup.

Next on the list is cranberries, rich with vitamin C, naturally low in calories, coupled with dietary fiber and manganese.  Cranberries offer an abundance of proanthocyanidins, the type of antioxidant that helps keep bacteria from adhering to the lining of the bladder and urinary tract.  Skip the canned cranberry sauce and easily whip up a batch of your own.  Simply simmer fresh cranberries with a little orange juice and zest, sweeten with a natural sweetener, and top with mandarin oranges and chopped walnuts.  You can have seconds of this, and thirds too!

What about the simple sweet potato?  Often ignored until the holidays, when grandma baked a casserole laden with tons of brown sugar and marshmallows.  Yuk!  Sweet potato is a root veggie, and a rich source of antioxidants such as vitamin C and beta-carotene.  Loaded with potassium like the banana, but with a delicious, edible skin that provides the health benefits of fiber, making the sweet potato a healthy holiday food.  Try something different this year and cut them into wedges and roast them drizzled with olive oil and rosemary or your favorite fresh herbs.  Sweet potatoes are also delicious mashed with buttermilk, added to a harvest squash soup, or baked and served simply like a baked white potato.

What about good old-fashioned green beans?  While they may be one of the healthiest holiday foods out there, (and an excellent source of manganese, vitamins A, C, K, fiber, folate, iron and potassium), the traditional green bean casserole is high in calories and sodium.  Save this delicious dish by making a lower-fat version with fat-free cream of mushroom soup and a heart-healthy butter substitute.  For extra healthy flavor, cook some onions in olive oil first, add fresh mushrooms, and mix this into the recipe.

And finally, the turkey.  This beloved bird is an excellent source of protein, and provides the least amount of fat per serving, compared to other meats, if you pass on the skin.  And while you’re passing, try passing on the ham this year.  Ham is loaded with fat and is high in sodium, so make it easier to pass on this holiday season by not serving it at all.

Remember during the holidays to think smart:  Start out your day with a healthy breakfast like oatmeal, yoghurt and fresh fruit—that way you’re not famished when you arrive at the party.  Eat plenty of fresh veggies, with a low-cal dip on the side.  If you partake at the party, drink a healthy glass of wine, even a wine spritzer to make the beverage last longer, top it off with fresh citrus for added taste and flair.  Feel confident with fresh breath at a party by brushing your teeth and flossing often—remember, dental plaque has been linked with cardiovascular disease, so keep ’em clean!  Eat smaller portions, and don’t buy into the holiday guilt trip that can drag you down in spirit.

The holidays are a season of celebration and spending time with friends and family, so enjoy delicious foods and time with those you love!  These are just a few ideas for making your holiday heart-healthy and delicious.  The two can go hand in hand.

Here’s to happy holidays and to your heart health!

Foods To Avoid With Diverticulitis

Although doctors are not exactly sure what causes diverticulitis, testing suggests a diet low in fiber does play a significant role in the process. Without the proper amount of fiber, the colon has to work much harder to push the stool forward. When this occurs consistently, the colon may suffer damage and weak points along the colon.

The irony of this painful condition is that foods you normally associate with good health are some of the foods you need to avoid. Everyone knows that a major part of any healthy diet consists of foods high in fiber. Fiber keeps your digestive system in nice working order.

Fiber allows for normal, regular and consistent bowel movements which eliminates waste that our bodies don’t need. Fiber also does many other wonderful things for our system, which is beyond the scope of this article.

Avoid like the plague: nuts and seeds! Anything with a husk in particular (sesame seeds, etc) should be avoided. Simply, these will re-irritate your colon lining and bring about the development of diverticula.

Corn is another food (any kind of corn products, popcorn, even corn flour and tortillas) to avoid if at all possible. Chili peppers and other spicy foods are also known to be very bad for diverticulitis sufferers.

Generally the suggested diverticulitis diet is low fiber and liquid diet. This will ensure that your colon and digestive system get the adequate rest which helps you to heal. You can expect improvements in a few days once you start taking the correct diet. Many people become stressed in this condition and it may include you also.

Just like we don’t all eat the same kinds of food in life, naturally, diverticulitis foods to avoid will not all be the same in each case. The causes stem from our bad eating habits and the poor nutrition as well as toxins that result from them to begin with. If you haven’t already I guessed its a good time to take an interest in health and nutrition.

The correct diet for diverticulitis is extremely important if you want to cut down or even eliminate any further attacks. While antibiotics will normally temporarily alleviate the often excruciating pain and discomfort, taking them over a long period of time can be almost as dangerous as the disease itself, not to mention the fact that your body will eventually grow immune to their effects.

As a result of this it is often necessary to go through a risky and invasive surgery which can result in a reduction in the quality of your life.

Most would agree that prevention is better than curing. So before this disease gets inside your gut, considering our hard economic times, we must guard our health and prepare for action. Being solely attributed to a lack of dietary fibers, the right choice of food is probably the best solution and answer.

Diverticulitis is a common digestive problem. It is a gastro-intestinal disorder, which is characterized by the inflammation of pouches called diverticula on the outside of the colon.

It is a painful condition which is creating problems for many people. This condition affects millions of people worldwide each year, expecially in industrialized nations, where the average diet is high in refined carbohydrates and low in fiber.

Usually, these pouches form in the large intestine, although they can be seen anywhere in the digestive tract. Often diverticulosis doesn’t cause any symptoms beyond a mild abdominal pain. If food lodges in one of these pouches, and gets infected it causes a more serious condition called diverticulitis.

The Medifast Diet Plan Support System

For those who may be considering getting into the Medifast diet plan, there are a number of support options that are made available. This is part of the program in order to answer participants’ inquiries and also to help encourage them to go on with the program and move on to another level later on.

One of the supports being provided is the information base that participants or even potential participants can look into. Amazingly, Medifast is said to have been around since 1980. That may still be pretty recent according to today’s standards and yet, that is also quite a long time in order to establish a niche in the diet industry. The Medifast diet plan is said to have been developed by a physician and has already been recommended by as much as 15,000 physicians as well.

One of the main appeals of the Medifast diet plan may be in its High Fullness Index. Unlike in traditional diet plans or ‘do-it-yourself’ diet programs, those who go into Medifast expect to get the full nutritional value and satisfaction from the meals they consume even as they go on a diet. This is made possible by custom-made meals that are proportioned to provide less calories while still giving the participant enough meat and ‘greens’ for their body. The purpose of cutting down on calories is so that the body is then prompted to use its burning mechanism to burn fat from the body.

In a way, this can be thought of as conditioning the body, specifically its metabolism rate and the manner by which it burns the food that has been consumed for fuel.

There is also a Medifast community where participants can also meet others like them who have taken or who are taking the Medifast diet plans. This is said to include videos and blogs as well as additional tools to help participants succeed and get the most out of the program.

A ‘Take Shape for Life’ program offers participants the chance to have a free coach who can also work with them as they go through the program. These coaches can provide information based on their own experience with the program. This aspect can be very helpful as it helps the program to target unique areas of concern for each participant of the program and is a useful supplement to the set guidelines provided.

The Individualized Medifast Diet Plan

The Medifast diet plan is another weight loss program designed to help those who wish to lose weight the natural, easy and healthy way. One feature of the Medifast diet plan is that there are different ‘programs’ each tailored for a particular group. In this case, the three groups are the men, the women and those with type 2 diabetes.

The Medifast weight loss plan may especially be appealing to women because the promise is that they can lose weight and keep it off with the help of this plan. The initial package is the Medifast for Women 4-week package. It is comprised of what is supposed to be the most popular Medifast meals while helping the participants save USD 30 on the initial purchase. Another attractive component of the diet may be the shakes that are offered and which are said to cater to the nutritional needs of the women. There are additional packages being offered which can be viewed on their site.

For men, the focus is on the meal plan plus the fullness and the satisfaction that they can get. This may be because given men’s physiology; the tendency is to consume more in order to satisfy their hunger and to build up body mass. A variety of meal packages can also be viewed on the Medifast weight loss website.

For those who have type 2 diabetes, there is also a provision in the Medifast diet plan in order to help it fit into their nutritional needs. Researchers supposedly have data that after 34 weeks of the Medifast diet plan, diabetic participants lost twice as much weight and were twice as likely to complete the diet plan compared to those who participated in the American Diabetes Association diet plan.

That said, there are many other resources that can be viewed on their website. Discerning readers and potential participants can download one of the many files in PDF formats most relevant to their concerns. They can also go ahead and take a look at the package and inquire into the success stories of those who went ahead and went into the program.

There are also plenty of support options being offered for those who wish to get into the Medifast diet plan which includes getting a free coach or finding a Medifast center. For those looking for a weight loss program, this could be the one for you.

Macrobiotics, Yin and Yang Foods

The natural health researchers at Institute for Vibrant Living (IVL) have investigated the health trend of macrobiotics. Here is their report:

The word “macrobiotics” is derived from the Greek language and means “long life.” It is an approach to wellness based on the consumption of “yin” and “yang” foods that are nutritionally and energetically balanced.

Faithful followers of a macrobiotic diet believe that foods work in harmony to realign natural energies in the body, promoting health and wellness.

Generally, this diet is low in fat and high in fiber, with an emphasis on seasonal and organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains, vegetable proteins, and limited meats.

Yin Foods and Yang Foods

There are four elements that determine whether a food is Yin or Yang:

How quickly the food grows and whether it grows up (above ground) or down (below ground).
Whether the food was grown in a northern or southern climate.
The sodium or potassium content of the food.
Whether the food has a hot, cold or neutral effect on the body.

Yin foods are rich in potassium, considered to be cool and nourishing to the body and typically grow above the soil.

Cool or cold foods are often:

White or green in color
Lower in calories
Served raw, steamed or boiled
Fruits
Vegetables
Legumes
Shellfish

Yang foods are higher in sodium, considered to be warm and drying to the body, and typically grow below the soil.

Warm or hot foods are often:

Red, yellow or orange in color
Higher in calories and cooked in oil
Most meats, some fish
Tomatoes
Peppers
Alcoholic beverages

Plain Foods (or foods that have a neutral effect on the body) include:

Rice
Pasta
Vegetable
Legumes
Potatoes
White sugar
Honey

Devotees of Macrobiotics believe you must eat “cool or cold” foods when it is hot, and “hot” foods when it is cold.

The Five-Element Theory

In addition to yin and yang, there are five earth elements associated with qualities of food which must also be balanced, and the healthiest meal encompasses all five.

Fire corresponds with bitter foods and expansive energy such as sadness and joy.  This element is said to affect the heart and small intestine.
Earth corresponds with sweet foods and downward energy such as worry and fulfillment.  Earth is said to affect the spleen and stomach.
Metal corresponds with pungent foods and contracted energy such as grief and hope.  Metal is said to have an effect on the lungs and large intestine.
Water corresponds with salty foods and floating energy like fear and will. The kidney and bladderare affected by this element.
Wood corresponds with sour foods and upward energy such as anger and kindness. The liver and gall bladderare affected by wood.

According to the five-element theory, if there is a physical problem in a particular area of the body, you must consume more foods of the corresponding element in order to restore health and balance.

The macrobiotic philosophy aims for harmony and wellness within the body.  Those who follow this diet strive for variety in every meal to ensure that a wide range of nutrients are consumed for balance and enjoyment!

And for those who are looking at alternative healthy diets, yet are struggling to get their 5 daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables, the Institute for Vibrant Living has formulated a new category of whole superfood supplements.

Just 1 tbsp. of these finely-milled powders mixed with 6-8 oz. of liquid will provide the equivalent of 5 daily recommended servings of vegetables and fruits. To learn more, visit IVLProducts.com and search: All Day Energy Greens & Go Ruby Go.

An Overview of the Nutrisystem Diet Plan

I get a lot of emails asking about the specifics of Nutrisystem. People want to know how it works, if it works, whether the food tastes good or not, how hungry you will be on it, how quickly the weight comes off, and if the diet is worth the money. In the following article, I’ll offer an overview of the Nutrisystem diet plan in an attempt to answer these questions.

How (And If) Nutrisystem Works: There are several things which I think make this diet work. They are: convenience, variety, education, and hunger control. What I mean by this is that there is not a lot of work for you to do on this diet. You don’t have to count calories or figure anything out. Basically, you eat the foods that they send you and you add in a healthy side item like a piece of fruit or a carton of yogurt with each meal.

The food on this diet is also pretty good. There are not many diets where you can chose cookies, candy bars, cereals and pizza. This company is really committed to developing comfort type foods that are healthy and safe for you to eat when you are trying to lose weight. There are over 120 food choices and they have just come out with their “select” line which includes gourmet frozen foods. In terms of taste and variety, the food on Nutrisystem, at least in my opinion, ranks quite highly.

They also offer you a lot of education about weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. Counseling and coaching is available for free. All you need to do to take advantage of this is to make a food purchase. They really do a good job of offering the information and support that you need to succeed.

This company has been around for over 35 years and the diet was developed by weight loss specialists. You eat five times per day with this plan. There is actually a claim on the company’s website which said that 4 out of 5 dieters surveyed indicated that they were “never hungry” on Nutrisystem. I can’t make that claim because for me there was an adjustment period, but I do have to say that after a few days, I was fine and am quite used to the portion sizes and the frequent eating now.

The company claims that most people lose 2 pounds per week and up on this plan. I’m not sure about others, but I find this to be a pretty conservative estimate. I think it really all depends upon the carb content of the sides that you are adding in, since the foods provided by the company are a variable that doesn’t change.

Also, the foods are high in proteins and fiber. This is done to make you feel full for much longer. And, this combination helps to put your body in ketosis, which is a metabolic state wherein your body burns fat instead of carbohydrates due to the higher amounts of protein that you are taking in. (This is why I think that your results depend in part on the carbohydrate content of the sides that you are adding.)

The Reasonable Cost Of Nutrisystem: For the last several years, Forbes magazine has ranked Nutrisystem as the lowest price popular diet program. Most of the plans on this diet run around $ 300 or so dollars per month before coupons. This works out to under $ 3 per meal. Also, they now have the new flex plan (where you take two days off per week) that only runs a little over $ 200 per month, which brings the cost way down, even though admittedly you are getting less food for your money.

Still, this is even before coupons and once you use them you will often find that you can pay less than you would pay if you were attempting to diet and buy groceries.

To get the latest nutrisystem coupon codes discussed in this article, please check out my blog (where you can also read my free e book “Getting The Most Out Of Nutrisystem” which includes recipes, the latest specials (up to two weeks free or over 0 off), information on all of the programs, tips, support, and motivation.
